The Fond du Lac County Public Health Office says now is the time of year when residents should be alert for blue-green algae blooms on Lake Winnebago. Public Health Officer, Kim Mueller, says the algae has not been reported in Fond du Lac County yet…but has been found near Oshkosh. Mueller says the algae can produce toxins that can make people and animals sick. If you come in contact with blue-green algae, wash thoroughly with clean water and contact your doctor or Poison Control Center if you begin to develop symptoms. Contact a veterinarian if your pet becomes ill.
