7-24-14 winter damage declaration request

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker is asking the federal government to help eight Wisconsin counties recover from infrastructure damage caused by the severe winter weather.  Walker has requested a federal disaster declaration to help pay for about $11 million in damage to broken water mains and frozen water towers due to the extreme cold.  The counties included in the request are Chippewa, Clark, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, Marathon, Milwaukee, Winnebago and Wood. The counties provided extensive information on depth of frost and damage. If the declaration request is approved, other counties could be added to the request.  Damages to homes and businesses don’t meet requirements for a federal disaster declaration for individual assistance.
