7-28-14 water rescue-lake winnebago

On Friday, July 25, 2014, at 3:53 pm, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a call of a capsized sailboat on Lake Winnebago approximately 3/4ths of a mile west of the Fisherman’s Road boat launch.  The call was placed by one of the occupants of the capsized sailboat by way of cellphone.  Both of the occupants were in the water and in need of assistance. The Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol and Rescue did respond to the area and was able to locate both occupants.  The occupants, both of Fond du Lac, 23 year old Christopher Stolle and 22 year old Chanel Volpel were wearing life jackets and had held themselves together until rescued.  They were located uninjured and transported to shore to be checked medically by Mt. Calvary Ambulance.   The 16’ Luge Sailboat capsized, submerged, and is believed to be drifting due to the approximate 3’ waves.  The sailboat was recovered Saturday near where it capsized.
