7-31-14 state chamber issues statement on outsourcing

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin state chamber of commerce is wading into the ongoing debate in the governor’s race over outsourcing.  Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce president Kurt Bauer issued a statement Wednesday saying the real issue in the debate is which candidate for governor supports reducing the costs of production in the state.  The statement doesn’t name either candidate, but WMC has been a strong supporter of Republican Gov. Scott Walker.  The governor and Democratic challenger Mary Burke have been arguing the past two weeks over outsourcing, giving state tax breaks to companies that send jobs overseas, and Burke’s role at Trek which manufacturers most of its bikes outside of the U.S.  Bauer, in his statement, tries to shift the focus of the debate onto the cost of doing business in the state.
