8-1-14 wi voter id-ruling

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says the state Supreme Court’s ruling that it’s constitutional to require voters to show photo identification at the polls could potentially lead to fraud.   In its Thursday ruling the court said the state can’t require someone to present documents that cost money, like a birth certificate copy, when applying for a state ID.  Vos says that has the potential for fraud because it’s unclear what the process will be to ensure a person is a legal citizen and who they claim to be.  Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says talks are already underway with the state Department of Transportation to make that provision of the ruling work. Vos and Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald both say the Legislature may address the issue next year.
