The candidates for Fond du Lac County sheriff met face to face last night for the final time before the August 12th primary election.  Sheriff Mick Fink and police detective Bill Ledger squared off in a debate at the Fond du Lac city-county government center sponsored by the Fond du Lac Reporter.  The most heated part of the debate came near the end when Fink asked Ledger if  he (sheriff)  had every made any disaparaging comments about him or the police department, referring to comments Ledger had posted on his Facebook page.   “People have accused me of wearing my emotions on my sleeve.  People have said I am the person who’s got the knee-jerk reaction,”  Ledger said.  “Specifically when you said I make you incandescently angry, I’m presenting issues that I feel need to be addressed.”  Fink told Ledger he wasn’t answering the question.  “You (Ledger) as recent as last week basically said log onto this and read what this detective has to say or should I say what the sheriff is lying about,”  Fink said referring to an Online posting.   “I think incandescently angry was the best I could come up with and to stay away from any expletives.  That wasn’t wearing my emotions on my sleeve, that was telling you what I thought.”    Ledger asked Fink if he had received any training himself to deal with the growing heroin problem.  “Being that most people in our area understand there is a heroin epidemic what training have you, yourself done and completed recently that helps you deal with what’s happening in our community?   Fink responded by saying he’s not running for sheriff to put handcuffs on people.  “That may be well within your realm as a drug investigator.  A sheriff looks at the whole picture,”  Fink said.   Ledger said if he is elected he would work to make sure department employees are better trained.   Fink says he’s proud of the young deputies coming up the ranks to continue the well-respected tradition in the department.
