A World War Two hero from Fond du Lac has received another honor.  During a ceremony at the American Legion hall in Fond du Lac Tuesday afternoon Wisconsin Veterans Affairs secretary John Scocos unveiled a plaque that will go on display at the new Veterans home in King, Wissconsin honoring James Megellas.  Megellas talked about his book All the Way to Berlin which describes the brutality of war from the eyes of the combat soldier.  “We all fight for a cause bigger than ourselves, we know that, but we never quite know sometimes what it is,”  Megellas said.  “But there wasn’t any question in my mind or my buddies that we were out to destroy a monstrosity.”    Megellas says that became clear when his platoon came across a concentration camp.  Megellas is the 82nd Airborne’s most decorated officer earning the Distinguished Service Cross, two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts.
