Waupun has a new fire chief. Longtime Waupun firefighter William “B.J.” DeMaa Junior officially started this week. “I’m going to be spending the first week here training alongside Jeff (Berry) and learning some of the administrative pieces of the department and starting next week I begin on my own,” DeMaa told WFDL news. DeMaa replaces Jeff Berry who is retiring. DeMaa is a Waupun native who started as a volunteer firefighter in the department a little more than a decade ago. ‘Started 12 years ago, 2001, as a firefighter and over the years as a fire inspector, fire instructor certification through the state, served a role as pump operator and now fire chief.”
