9-11-14 afscme leader says beating walker top priorioty

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker’s campaign spokeswoman says the fact that the nation’s largest public sector union is making his ouster their top priority shows that they are bitter.  Lee Saunders, president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees told the Washington Post in a story published Wednesday that defeating Walker was the union’s top priority.  Saunders says, “We have a score to settle with Scott Walker.”  A spokesman for Democratic challenger Mary Burke declined to comment.  Walker spokeswoman Alleigh Marre says unions like AFSCME are “going to stop at nothing” to win.  Walker’s signature legislation passed in 2011 over protests and union opposition effectively ended collective bargaining for most public workers, while also requiring them to pay more for benefits to help deal with a state budget shortfall.
