MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A conservative group has accused Madison school officials of illegally negotiating new contracts with the local teachers union. The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty filed a lawsuit in Dane County Circuit Court on Wednesday alleging the Madison school board, the school district and Madison Teachers, Inc., all violated Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s signature law that prohibits public employers from negotiating with their workers on anything beyond base wages when the sides reached new contracts for this school year and the next. The lawsuit demands a judge declare the contracts invalid and issue an injunction blocking them from being enforced.
