9-16-14 senate majority leader says structural deficit is “manageable”

The state senate majority leader is defending Republican authored tax cuts even if they have contributed to a projected structural deficit  of nearly $1.8 billion.   Senator Scott Fitzgerald says the tax cuts were necessary to help jump start the economy.  “If these deficits are caused by cutting taxes then that’s something we’re willing to do to get the economy moving, to get job growth,”  Fitzgerald told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  Meanwhile Fitzgerald says he is confident the legislature will be able to manage the projected deficit when the next state budget is unveiled.  “At the end of this year there will be $400 million in revenues still there, real cash.  We will then in February get another budget from the governor, I’m very hopeful it will be Scott Walker. At that time the precedence has been any shortfall in the projection could be addressed in that budget.”
