9-17-14 wisconsin ballots-complaint

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin’s chief elections officer calls complaints by the state Republican Party over the newly redesigned ballot “absurd.”  Government Accountability Board director Kevin Kennedy on Tuesday addressed complaints raised by state GOP director Joe Fadness that the redesigned ballot is confusing, may benefit Democratic candidates and should be redone before the Nov. 4 election.  Kennedy says that is not practical or necessary. He says it is absurd to claim that nonpartisan elections officials were trying to design the ballot in a way to help one party.  One issue raised by Fadness is that Democratic candidates are listed first for each office. But state law dictates ballot order and it’s based on which party received the most votes in the prior election.  Republican candidates were listed first on ballots in 2012.
