The Berlin police chief says his department hopes to make an arrest soon in connection with a double homicide over the weekend. A Berlin woman and her boyfriend were shot and killed and the woman’s husband is considered a person of interest. That person was taken into custody over the weekend and later released. Police chief Dennis Plantz says its not the type of crime you would think could happen in a small community like Berlin. Plantz says passerby at first thought it was a Halloween prank when she came across the female victim on the ground outside the apartment complex late Saturday night. “What would have been a passerby walking down the sidewalk noticed the female victim laying on the sidewalk, initially thought it to be somewhat of a halloween prank,” Plantz told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. “She came up to the victim and actually touched the person and realized it was actually a person and called 911.” Plantz says residents who may have additional information are asked to call police. The couple’s eight year old daughter was staying with her grandparents and was unharmed.
