10-1-14 wi governor-rga retreat

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democrats are blasting Republican Gov. Scott Walker for allowing his top state aides to attend a Republican Governors Association retreat where corporate leaders could speak to them if they donated to the association.  State Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate told reporters during a conference call Tuesday that the move was “an affront to democracy” and Walker doesn’t understand the line between state work and campaigning.  Walker said Tuesday that his staff attends meetings of multiple associations, just as staffers for his Democratic predecessor, Jim Doyle, did and his people didn’t raise any money and simply talked policy at the retreat in Carlsbad, California, in July 2013.  The New York Times first reported earlier this month that Walker’s staff attended the retreat.
