10-9-14 governor-iron ore mine

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Two conservation groups say they are spending $1 million on a television and mail ad campaign against Gov. Scott Walker over his support of a giant iron ore mine near Lake Superior. The Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters and the national League of Conservation Voters unveiled a television ad Wednesday.  The ad says Walker gutted environmental protections so an out-of-state mining company can open an iron mine in northern Wisconsin. The ad also references a $700,000 donation the mining company, Gogebic Taconite, made to a pro-Walker group Wisconsin Club for Growth.  Walker has said he didn’t know about the donations which were made in 2011 and 2012.  Walker signed legislation last year streamlining state mining requirements and paving the way for the project.
