10-17-14 wi ag candidate-interracial marriage

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican attorney general candidate Brad Schimel says he shouldn’t have answered a question on whether he would defend interracial marriage bans.  An Oshkosh public access cable program interview was pressing Schimel last month on Schimel’s stance the he would defend all state laws. He asked Schimel if he would have defended interracial marriage bans if he was attorney general in a state with such a prohibition in the 1950s. Schimel said he would have been obligated to defend such bans. Schimel said Thursday that he shouldn’t have answered, saying the question was an absurd hypothetical.  A spokesman for Schimel’s opponent, Democrat Susan Happ, says it’s too bad Schimel feels embarrassed but his answer shows he would defend extreme, unconstitutional views.
