Outgoing Republican Sixth District Representative Tom Petri said he will not endorse Republican candidate Glenn Grothman in this year’s election. Petri made the comments after Grothman had earlier stated that if he was elected and in two years people said he was ‘just like Petri’ he would be insulted. In an interview earlier this year on AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program Petri said he believed the congressional district seat could be won by a Democratic candidate. “Winnebago County has a Democratic assemblyman, Manitowac and Sheboygan counties have been voting more Republican lately but the truth is I think if you do a poll and ask people if they’re Republican or Democrat or Independent the largest number of people say they’re Independent,” Petri said. Petri said he believed Democratic candidate Mark Harris has done “a fine job” as Winnebago County Executive.
