MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Just 12 days before the election, state Rep. Brett Hulsey says he is running for governor as an independent write-in candidate. Hulsey lost the Democratic primary to Mary Burke, earning 16 percent of the vote. Hulsey announced Thursday that he was mounting a last-minute write-in campaign, but if it appears the effort is helping Republican Gov. Scott Walker, he will stop. The most recent Marquette University Law School poll released last week showed Burke and Walker to be tied. Hulsey’s name will not appear on the ballot, but if people write him in the votes will be counted. Other registered write-in candidates are Republican Steve R. Evans, Constitution Party candidate Jumoka Johnson and Mary Jo Walters, who did not declare a party. Walters lost the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor.
