10-31-14 marquette poll director says turnout still key

The director of the Marquette Law School poll says voters, not polls elect candidates… and says voter turnout will still be key in Tuesday’s election.  The final poll showed governor Scott Walker up by seven points among likely voters…but up by just one point among all registered voters.  Poll director Charles Franklin says there were some other significant findings in the poll including how independent voters were leaning and the gender gap.  “Independents in this sample did go back to being much more like what they were in the three previous polls, and that is giving Walker an average advantage among independents,”  Franklin told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  “The gender gap returned after disappearing two weeks ago.  The gender gap means that while Burke wins the votes of women, Walker wins the votes of men by an even bigger margin.”   When it comes to the attorney general’s race the poll found that 65 percent of  residents still didn’t know who the candidates are.
