11-1-14 6th congressional district race

Equal pay for equal work was the highlight of a debate between the candidates for the 6th Congressional district seat.  Republican state senator Glenn Grothman and the Democratic candidate, Winnebago County executive Mark Harris met for their third and final debate of the campaign in Plymouth this week.  Harris said Grothman had previously stated that earning money may mean more to males in defending unequal pay for equal work.  Grothman says he never said that.  “He (Harris) was lying.  We changed a law that allowed somebody to go before a jury and get huge damages if they claimed discrimination.  It would have been a very difficult place to do business in Wisconsin,”  Grothman said. “But we still have and I am still in favor of equal pay for men and women.”  Harris said he has Grothman on tape saying it.  “I think Glenn has made a lot of inflammatory comments over time and they’re part of the public record,”  Harris said.   “I don’t know how he can run away from them now.”   Harris says he thinks voters don’t want someone with extreme views to represent them in Washington, but rather ” someone who is thoughtful and constructive.” Harris and Grothman were guests Friday on AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.
