11-22-14 plea deal falls through for fdl man accused of failing to protect children from abuse

A plea deal for a Fond du lac man accused of failing to prevent his wife from abusing two children has fallen through.  Troy Riehl is charged with five counts including party to the crime of child neglect and abuse and failure to prevent child abuse.  According to a criminal complaint Riehl did not physically abuse the two boys, but did nothing to protect them. At a hearing last week,  the prosecution told the judge the deal was off after Riehl said he wanted to enter what’s called an Alford plea.   That’s where the defendant does not admit guilt, but acknowledges a jury may find him guilty based on the evidence.  A jury trial will now be scheduled for January.  Meanwhile a plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for next month for 46 year old Jeana Riehl.  She is scheduled to go on trial in January on 10 counts of child abuse and neglecting a child.   According to a criminal complaint Jeana Riehl is accused of  abusing two boys for a period of several years…striking them with a rolling pin,  cutting board, horse whip and hunting arrow, and locking one of the boys in a bathroom for weeks.
