3-14-15 st. patrick’s day celebration-owi enforcement

On St. Patrick’s Day everyone claims to be Irish and many people celebrate.  There is a lot of socializing and that may include drinking. That is why Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County is joining with Fond du Lac County law enforcement agencies to remind people that during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and throughout the year, drinking alcohol and driving do not mix.  Law Enforcement will be out in force throughout the county on St. Patrick’s Day and the weekend before with a coordinated effort to crackdown on impaired drivers.  Waupun police chief Dale Heeringa says  officers will be deployed  looking  specifically for those motorists who choose to drive drunk.  This weekend, Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County is encouraging people to take some simple steps to ensure their celebrations don’t end in tragedy.

  • Enjoy the day or weekend without alcohol or limit your alcohol intake
  • Have a designated driver
  • Never let a friend leave your sight if you think they are about to drive and have had too much to drink

Meanwhile, the St. Patrick’s Day parade starts at 3pm Saturday at Rees and Main Streets in Fond du lac.  Nearly 50 parade entries will march south to Veterans Park.
