3-18-15 dodge county ice rescue update

A man that was rescued after breaking through the ice on a pond while attempting to save his dog has been identified. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department says 56 year old Dale Bratz and his black labrador retriever were rescued after breaking through the ice on a private pond on County Highway Q near Ranch Road in the Town of Shields. At just after 6 p.m. Sunday, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman reporting her husband had gone into the water. The man was trying to rescue a family dog that was out on the ice. A Sheriff’s Deputy was first to arrive and deployed an ice/water rescue throw-bag. Bratz and dog were both pulled to shore. EMS transported Bratz to Watertown Hospital with what appeared to be symptoms of hypothermia. He had been in the water for about 17 minutes at the time of rescue. The Sheriff’s Department says the dog appeared to be doing fine.
