3-19-15 right to work law

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice is urging a judge to let the state’s right-to-work law stand.  The Wisconsin state AFL-CIO and two local labor unions filed a lawsuit in Dane County last week challenging the law. They argue the law is an unconstitutional taking of their property because under its provisions they must extend benefits to workers who don’t pay union dues. Judge William Foust has scheduled a hearing Thursday on the unions’ request for a temporary injunction.  DOJ attorneys filed a brief Tuesday imploring Faust to deny the request.  They contend the law doesn’t amount to any unconstitutional taking of union property, saying the law doesn’t remove a single penny from the unions’ accounts. They argue, too, that similar challenges to right-to-work legislation in other states have failed.
