Obesity, access to mental health services, alcohol use and abuse and dental care for Medicaid recipients are the top health concerns in Fond du lac county. That according to new data from the 2014 Community health assessment. The results were unveiled at a meeting of the Healthy Fond du Lac County 2020 Steering committee. Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says illegal drug abuse, specifically opioids-heroin is a major concern. Mueller says 66 percent of 400 Fond du lac county residents surveyed said illegal drug use and abuse was the biggest public health concern followed by obesity at 41 percent. Mueller says Fond du Lac County’s obesity rate is higher than the statewide average. “Unfortunately our obesity rate has grown,” Mueller told WFDL news. “Even with all of our efforts the problem is still there and it is getting worse.”
