5-29-15 area lawmakers call on state to change location for two convicted child sex offenders

Two area legislators are trying to get the state to change the location of where two convicted child sex offenders are placed when they are released from prison next week.  State  Sen. Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau and Rep. Mark Born of Beaver Dam issued a joint statement Thursday stating that allowing two Chapter 980 individuals to be placed next to the residence of two young children is simply unacceptable.  Fitzgerald and Born said in their statement: “Today, we are calling for the Department of Health Services under the authority given by 980.08(6m) of the Wisconsin statutes, to stop the intended court ordered placement of two individuals — both convicted of first degree sexual assault of a child — in the Town of Leroy. We were shocked and dismayed at the lack of notice given to both the community and their elected officials on this crucial issue.”  The individuals would be living at a residence on Highway 49 a little more than a mile west of Brownsville.  The home is owned by Fond du Lac attorney Kirk Everson, who owns several properties that house released sex offenders.  Area residents packed a meeting room this week at a community notification meeting hosted by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
