5-29-15 fdl school superintendent concerned about home-school, private school sports bill

The Fond du Lac school superintendent says he has concerns about a measure inserted into the state budget that would allow private, home-schooled and online charter students to participate in public school district sports and activities.  Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says he’s concerned a public school student could potentially lose an opportunity granted to a student who doesn’t attend the school.  “I didn’t anticipate it getting jammed into the Jt. Finance committee budget at about 1:30am.  I didn’t see that coming,”  Sebert told WFDL news.  The bill’s author says his children and other home-schooled children want to play on public school sports teams.  Sebert says he struggles with the proposal.  “We have, in the Fond du Lac School District, close to 7500 public school kids who choose the Fond du lac School District as their educational option and should be afforded those opportunities the district provides.”
