7-2-15 grothman, johnson welcome va inspector general retirement

Republican congressman Glenn Grothman says he’s pleased that Deputy VA Inspector General Richard Griffin is stepping down.  Griffin announced his retirement Wednesday amid an investigation of over prescription of opiates at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tomah.  “Its a good thing he’s leaving,”  Grothamn told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  “To be honest one of the problems we have in all government agencies is that its very, very rare that we see somebody pushed out or stepping down voluntarily.”   Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson, said he welcomes the news of Griffin’s retirement.  Johnson said during Griffen’s tenure, the VA Office of Inspector General failed to make 140 reports public and  administratively closed a two-year-long investigation exposing problems at Tomah, Wisconsin. Johnson says he hopes new leadership will bring a renewed commitment to transparency and accountability in the Office of Inspector General.
