7-28-15 government accountability board

The head of a government watchdog group says dismantling the state elections board would be a mistake, but a Republican lawmaker from Fond du Lac says he supports making changes.  Governor Scott Walker says he wants to replace the GAB with something completely new and that is accountable to the people. Common Cause in Wisconsin Director Jay Heck says that’s why the GAB was established following the legislative caucus scandal.   “It was a Republican initiative, working with us and others and it was absolutely essential to have something that the people of Wisconsin would have faith in after the caucus scandal,”  Heck told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  Republican state lawmakers have suggested reshaping the board, which is comprised of former judges.  Republican state senator Rick Gudex of Fond du Lac says his issue is with the head of the GAB.  “I don’t necessarily think that the judges that preside over the GAB are the issue.  The issue is within GAB, Kevin Kennedy primarily and his staff,”  Gudex told WFDL news.
