A nearly one thousand page report of the shootout that claimed the life of a state patrol trooper and bank robbery suspect in Fond du Lac has been released by the state Department of Justice.  Trooper Trevor Casper and bank robbery suspect Steven Snyder were shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire.  “Shots fired, shots fired, shots fired,”  came the call from one of the first officers who had arrived on the scene.  The incident happened March 24th  after Snyder robbed a bank in northern Wisconsin, shot and killed a man to steal his vehicle, and then drove south where the confrontation occurred in Fond du lac near the West Johnson Street Pick N Save grocery store.  Trooper  Casper was on his first solo patrol and was working a traffic stop on Highway 41 when the dispatch call came in that the suspect vehicle was near Fond du Lac.  “I know you guys are super busy but we’ve got a car behind, the uh, homicide, bank robbery up north,”   the dispatcher radioed.  “Do you have anybody you can send us?”   The Justice Department did not release any audio or video from the shootout itself…but did release the audio of the first officer to arrive at trooper Casper’s side and the discovery of the suspect’s body behind the grocery store.  “Come on Trevor hang in there buddy, hang in there Trev.”    At a press conference last week the Fond du lac County District Attorney praised Trooper Casper for his heroic actions.
