7-30-15 new bucks arena-city and county

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The plan for a new Milwaukee Bucks arena now shifts to the local level. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett expects the Common Council to vote on its portion of the funding plan by early September. The city is asked to contribute $47 million by providing a parking structure and tax incremental financing.  Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele has been criticized by some county supervisors for his plan to sell 10 acres of vacant downtown land to the Bucks’ main owners for $1. Also, the bill passed by the Wisconsin Assembly Tuesday allows the state to take the county’s commitment of $4 million a year for 20 years out of state aid payments, causing some to worry about a decline in county services.  The bill providing $250 million in public funds is headed to Gov. Scott Walker for his signature.
