7-31-15 justice defends decision to sit on john doe case

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A conservative-leaning Wisconsin Supreme Court justice is defending his decision not to recuse himself from playing a role in a ruling that ended a secret investigation into whether Republican Governor Scott Walker’s recall campaign illegally coordinated with conservative groups. Justice David Prosser released an opinion Thursday saying he was the justice lead prosecutor Francis Schmitz wanted out. He said the groups spent to help in during his 2011 election four years ago and enough time has gone by that recusal isn’t necessary.
