8-31-15 former nfdl special ed teacher going to prison

A  former assistant special education teacher at Horace Mann High School in North Fond du Lac convicted of sexually assaulting a special education student is going to prison.   Fond du Lac judge Robert Wirtz sentenced 45 year old Dominic Carmona to four years in prison followed by six years of extended supervision.  Assistant District Attorney Kristin Menzl says she is satisfied with the sentence.  “My reaction is what any parent or community member would think, that this is something that shouldn’t be happening.  Its something that should not be tolerated, something that goes to the heart of the community when we put our students in schools with teachers we trust to take care of them correctly,”  Menzl told WFDL news. Carmona earlier pleaded no contest to one count of sexual assault of a student by school staff and one count of child enticement.  He was initially charged with 14 counts.  Sheriff’s detective Pete Vergos testified at an earlier hearing that the alleged 16 year old victim told him that she had sexual contact with Carmona on at least ten occasions.  Vergos testified the girl said Carmona would pick her up at her residence and some of the sexual activity took place in his vehicle while he was driving.
