9-1-15 hwy 23 crash again raises concerns about expansion project delay

A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s captain says a crash that critically injured an Oostburg man probably wouldn’t have happened if Highway 23 had been widened to four lanes.  The crash Sunday night occurred when a car was broadsided by a semi while trying to cross 23 at the intersection with Highway G.  Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says the project called for building an interchange at that intersection.   “If this is an interchange, this crash doesn’t happen,”  Olig told WFDL news.   Olig says investigators aren’t sure if the victim drove through the stop sign, or stopped and then tried to cross the highway not realizing a semi was traveling westbound on 23.  The expansion project has been delayed because of a lawsuit and cuts to the state transportation budget.
