MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democrats in the Wisconsin Legislature are pushing a bill that is designed to prevent large increases in health insurance rates. Democrats and supporters of President Barack Obama’s federal health care law unveiled the measure on Thursday, but it’s unlikely to gain traction in the Republican-controlled Legislature. But supporters say they hope to convince their Republican colleagues to get behind the bill. It would make insurance companies give consumers 60 days’ notice for rate increases and require the state Office of the Commissioner of Insurance to hold public hearings on rate increases of more than 10 percent. Six health insurance companies are seeking rate increases between 10 and 33 percent.
