10-5-15 plymouth cheese plant closing

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (AP) — Dairy Farmers of America has announced plans to close a cheese plant in Plymouth, eliminating 300 jobs.   plant is expected to be closed in January because it has out-of-date technology and infrastructure.  The plant makes Borden cheese and private-label cheese products. It’s been operating since 1954.  John Stephens is chief operating officer of Kansas City, Missouri-based Dairy Farmers. He says business decisions that impact employees’ lives are difficult, but despite upgrades to the building, it’s been hard to remain competitive.  He says the company will help employees through the transition.  Dairy Farmers will produce Borden cheese products through a third-party manufacturer.
