10-6-15 fdl county clerk supports gab

The Fond du lac County Clerk says she agrees with the chairman of the non partisan board that oversees Wisconsin elections that overhauling board operations could have serious consequences for the 2016 contests.  Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says a Republican proposal to re-shape the Government Accountability Board is unnecessary.    “In my opinion I feel the GAB is fine the way it is.  I know that many people will disagree however I work very, very closely with them,”  Freiberg told WFDL news  “Did they find errors when they did the audit?  Abosolutely.  If we’re doing everything perfectly, wow, wouldn’t that be the perfect world we live in.”   Freiberg says an audit that found some problems should be used as a tool, not an excuse to make major changes.  Freiberg says now is not the time for changes with several elections next year, implementing voter photo ID and upgrading the voter registration system.  They couldn’t have picked a worse year to decide they want to revamp everything,”  Freiberg said.   The GAB is a group of six retired judges that oversee elections and ethics laws.  Republicans are expected to replace judgs with partisans and divide the responsibilities between an elections board and ethics board.
