10-6-15 madison attorney applies for supreme court opening

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Madison attorney Claude Covelli has applied for an appointment to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, saying he is “truly nonpartisan.”  The 68-year-old Covelli said Monday he submitted an application to Gov. Scott Walker last week. State Appeals Court Judge Rebecca Bradley also applied. Walker’s office has not released the names of the applicants.  Covelli has been an attorney for more than 40 years, with a focus on litigation involving insurance.  Bradley had already announced she planned to run for the Supreme Court before Justice Patrick Crooks died last month, creating the vacancy. Covelli is also considering running for the seat.  The appointment would be only for the final 10 months of Crooks’ term. The election in April is for a full 10-year term.  JoAnne Kloppenburg and Joe Donald are also running.
