10-9-15 wi solicitor general

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A West Virginia attorney has been hired to be Wisconsin’s first solicitor general. Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel announced the hiring of Misha Tseytlin on Thursday. The new position was created by the Legislature this year to help deal with lawsuits that are on appeal.  Tseytlin currently serves as general counsel to West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. Both Morrisey and Schimel are Republicans.  Tseytlin previously worked three years for a Washington-based law firm and was president of the student chapter of the conservative Federalist Society when he was a law school student at Georgetown.  The liberal group One Wisconsin Now criticized the hiring, calling Tseytlin a “right wing lawyer.”  Tseytlin will be paid $135,000 a year.
