11-30-15 waupun police-cold case investigation

Waupun police are hoping someone comes forward with a piece of information that helps them solve the mysterious disappearance of Jerry Strege.  Strege was reported missing 13 years ago by his father.  Waupun police detective Brian O’Donovan says when Strege’s father went to his apartment to see why he was not answering the telephone, he found the apartment unlocked, lights on,  television on, all of his belongings in the apartment and both of his vehicles still in the garage.  But O’Donovan says whether Strege was the victim of foul play, committed suicide or vanished on his own for whatever reason is unknown.  O’Donovan says he’s still hoping that someone has a piece of information that maybe they didn’t think was important at the time that could provide a break in the case.  Strege was last seen on his last day of work at the Dodge Correctional Institution on October 2nd, 2002.  He was scheduled to return to work October 8th, but never showed up.  Strege previously worked at the Waupun Correctional Institution and was held hostage by inmates during a prison riot in the early 1980s.  One theory was that a Waupun inmate may have been involved in Strege’s disappearance, but O’Donovan says there has never been any evidence to back that up. Strege was an avid amateur golf and had been planning to compete in a golf tournament the weekend he disappeared.  O’Donovan says many of his golfing friends said he was looking forward to playing golf that weekend.
