2-27-17 fdl high school gym floor needs replacement-hardwood surface has been failing for years

The Fond du Lac School Board will get more information at a workshop session tonight on the need to replace the gym floor at the Fond  du lac High School Fieldhouse.  School board president Mark Jurgella says school administration officials say the floor is failing and needs to be replaced at a cost estimated in excess of $300,000.  “The boards are splitting, the sub-floor is failing creating some real soft spots that are sagging badly,”  Jurgella told WFDL news.  He says the school district has already spent thousands of dollars replacing hundreds of floor boards every year for the last several years and says he’s been told others schools who had gym floors installed by the same contractor had problems with their floors as well.  Jurgella says given this development he’s happy the school district halted plans to spend money on new artificial turf at Fruth Field.  The hardwood floor was installed when the new high school was built in 2001.   Jurgella says he’s also surprised that the floor had only a one year warranty.
