4-9-18 waldschmidt announces bid for fdl county sheriff

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s captain Ryan Waldschmidt has made the official announcement that he is running for sheriff.   Waldschmidt filed his declaration of candidacy papers Friday,  a couple days after sheriff Mick Fink officially announced he would not seek re-election.  “I have a desire to use the skills developed over a life-long career of public service to confront the new challenges our community faces, and I believe I have the leadership, experience, and trust necessary to successfully lead the Sheriff’s Office into the future. I view the role of Sheriff as being larger than just one person. Rather, it is the cumulative effort of over 150 deputies who work hard to protect our community every day of the year,”  Waldschmidt said.   “I am excited for the opportunity to lead these deputies and serve as your next Sheriff. I look forward to the campaign, meeting the community, sharing my vision for the future of the Sheriff’s Office, and I hope to earn your vote on August 14th.”  Waldschmidt began his law enforcement career in 1998  as a part-time deputy reserve with the Sheriff’s Office and as a patrol officer with the Brandon-Fairwater Police Department.  Since that time Ryan has advanced within the Sheriff’s Office to hold the positions of correctional deputy, patrol deputy, patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant, juvenile detention superintendent, and assistant jail administrator.    The FBI Academy graduate was promoted to captain in 2016.   His present duties include supervision of the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, Civil Process, Deputy Reserve, Dive Team, SWAT Team, Boat Patrol & Water Rescue, Crash Reconstruction Team, and all other specialized units.  Waldschmidt will square off in the August 14 primary election against patrol deputy Mike Norton.
