11-15-19 artificial turf-fdl school district athletic director

The Fond du Lac School District athletic director says a new football stadium would  be another tool to help attract students through open enrollment.   Athletic director David Michalkiewicz continued his sales pitch for an artificial turf football stadium at the high school during a school board workshop this week.  Michalkiewicz says other schools that have installed turf realize its about more than just having a new field.  “They are competing for kids and it does come into effect as people are determing which schools to go to,”  Michalkiewicz told WFDL news.  “They do look at facilities.  They’re going to look  at the school report card, they’re going to look at facilities, they’re going to look at a lot of things.   It does matter to a section of peoplewhen they’re making a decision on school choice for open enrollment.”   Meanwhile, Michalkiewicz told the school board he is confident of being able to raise $3.75 million in the private sector toward the estimated $4.4 million cost.  He says if the board agrees to commit to pay the balance,   the district fund balance could be used  without harming the district’s bond rating.
