12-12-19 nfdl school superintendent-school shootings react

The North Fond du Lac School superintendent says last week’s school shooting incidents and school threats reinforce the need for developing a culture of kindness and caring in schools.    School resource officers shot and wounded two armed students in separate incidents at high schools in Waukesha and Oshkosh.   The student in Waukesha was shot after he allegedly pointed a pellet gun at another student and officers and later said he was “tired of being picked on.”   School threats were made in Fond du Lac and North Fond du Lac.   North Fond du Lac school superintendent Aaron Sadoff says its about being decent and  kind and listening to one another.  “There’s no real secret.  You’re not going to understand what every kid goes through, but you sure can validate what’s going through is real to them,”  Sadoff told WFDL news.  “When that happens then we can start dealing with problems and issues and helping people get to a place where we’re not always going to feel good about everything, but at least when we feel bad we don’t think that an option is to hurt somebody or ourselves.”   Sadoff says its important to create an environment in the school that shows students you care about them.  Sadoff says the incidents also show the importance of when you see something or hear something, make sure you do something.
