The Fond du Lac Parks Department will be experimenting with an alternative to Roundup to kill weeds at Lakeside Park this summer. At the direction of the Fond du Lac city council, Parks director John Redmond, says crews will be using an organic, non-toxic compound. “It would be an organic product that we will use. We will trial a section of the park and use that exclusively for that area just to see how it works,” Redmond told WFDL news. Redmond says he has been in contact with the LaCrosse Parks Department, who stopped using Roundup last fall, following community concerns about the toxic weed killer that has been linked to cancer. Redmond says if the organic product works, that would be great. Redmond discussed his findings at the last city council meeting.
