1-16-20 fdl county republican party chair attends trump rally

A retired Ripon College political science professor says president Donald Trump’s rally in Milwaukee this week shows how important the state will be in this year’s election.  Political scientist Marty Farrell says  Trump won Wisconsin in 2016 by just 23,000 votes and polls show this year it is again looking like a toss-up.  “He actually polls somewhat better in Wisconsin than he does nationally,”  Farrell told WFDL news.  “Maybe that’s because the national polls are skewed by the big population states where he’s not so popular.”   The chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County, Rohn Bishop, was at the rally.  “It was electric,”  Bishop told WFDL news.  “The people, the crowd, they were very excited to be there.” Bishop says Trump touted his accomplishments before the enthusiastic crowd, highlighting the strong economy.  Meanwhile the Democratic presidential candidates held their final debate before the Iowa caucuses Tuesday night.  Farrell says none of the candidates have been able to pull away from the pack.  Farrell says recent comments by Elizabeth Warren that fellow  Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders told her he didn’t think a woman could win the presidency could change the tone of the campaign.   Farrell says there is always a danger when candidates of the same party make personal attacks against one another.
