4-7-20 fdl county officials telling tourists to “stay away”

Fond du Lac County officials are strongly encouraging tourists to postpone travel plans to Fond du Lac County until the public health emergency is over.   Fond du Lac County Executive Al Buechel declared a public health emergency March 13, as the number of COVID-19 cases in the county continues to rise.   Buechel says the goal of the recommendation is to provide the safest public health environment possible in the county.  “We know right now this is dangerous,”  Buechel told WFDL news.   “People are wearing masks to avoid contact, we have the social distancing.  All of that is going on and to have somebody come from the outside that brings the virus with them is just increasing the risk.”   The county is asking motels and hotels to not accept new reservations and cancel those that exist to encourage people to temporarily not travel to the area.   Buechel says people with a second home in Fond du lac County are encouraged to stay at their primary residence until the public health emergency is over.  Buechel says the recommendation is made in hopes of limiting the demands placed on local hospitals, emergency personnel, nurses and doctors.
