The Waupun Common Council will discuss proposed cuts that would affect the Waupun Correctional Institution at a meeting next week. Under his budget proposal, governor Scott Walker would eliminate about 400 positions across state government, including third-shift prison guards positioned in towers. Waupun mayor Kyle Clark says the question is how that could potentially impact safety? “I believe 60 positions which would save an estimated $6 million a year. It would be throughout the state, facilities that still staff third shift towers,’ Clark told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. Clark says the council will meet as a Committee of the Whole Tuesday evening. He says a couple of area state legislators plan to be in attendance.
