2-25-15 senate labor committee approves right to work

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Senate’s labor committee has approved a Republican right-to-work bill, sending the measure on to the full Senate for a vote. The GOP-controlled committee voted 3-1 along party lines to approve the bill after listening to more than eight hours of conflicting testimony from the public on whether right-to-work would help or hurt the state. Committee Chairman Stephen Nass had planned to end the hearing at 7 p.m. but adjourned a half-hour early, saying union leaders had threatened to disrupt the proceeding. Union leaders denied the allegation.  The committee vote clears the way for the Republican-controlled Senate to vote on the bill. The Senate’s organizational committee planned to place the bill on the chamber’s Wednesday calendar. The Assembly is expected to take up the bill next week.
