3-21-15 fdl high school academic excellence scholarship winners

The following high school seniors are the 2014-15 recipients of Fond du Lac High School’s Academic Excellence Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to students based on their cumulative grade point average (GPA) and their future plans to attend a state of Wisconsin public or private institution. The Higher Education Aids Board (HEAB) in partnership with the college the scholarship recipient is attending funds these scholarships, valued at $2,250 per year for up to 4 years. The Fond du Lac High School seniors receiving these scholarships are:

Sarah Amundson, the daughter of Keith Amundson and Theresa Galligan-Amundson, plays first chair French horn in Symphonic Winds and Percussion and sings soprano in Concert Choir at Fond du Lac High School. She also performs in the school marching band where she currently holds the positions of Senior Drum Major and Mellophone Section Leader. She also served as Senior Drum Major in 2014 and Junior Drum Major in 2013. She had roles in The Music Man, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and Into the Woods and played French horn in the pit orchestra for both How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and White Christmas. Besides musical and theatre-oriented activities, she is a member of the National Honor Society and the Math Team.  Sarah’s future plans include attending a four-year institution where she hopes to pursue both an English major and a career in the medical field.

Cole, K

Kelli Cole, the daughter of Tony and Kate Cole, is a member of the National Honor Society, plays Varsity tennis, and participates in Students Working as Teachers, Ignition Mentoring, and the Spirit Committee. Her accomplishments include serving as President of the National Honor Society, being selected as a Rotary Student of the Month, and being a recipient of the Pere Marquette Award.  Her future plans include pursuing a degree in Biomedical Sciences and then becoming an eye doctor

Saleh, K

Kenan Saleh, the son of Haydar Saleh and Maria Saleh, serves as Vice President of the Senior Class, founded and is a member of the Muslim Students Association (MSA), and participates in Ignition Mentoring, Key Club, the National Honor Society, and Future Business Leaders of America, and is also on the tennis and soccer teams.  His accomplishments as a tennis player include being a 4-Year Varsity Letter Winner and State Qualifier, serving as the Varsity team captain, a two-time 2nd Team All-Conference selection, and the Varsity MVP. Kenan was on the UW-FDL Dean’s List, FDL High School’s Honor Roll, and has designed his own class in Chemistry.   Kenan’s future plans are to attend college and go to medical school.

Sass, M

Madi Sass, the daughter of Greg and Lori Sass, is a Senior Class Officer, involved in Key Club and Ignition Mentoring, has performed in the Fall musicals and Winter plays, and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spirit committee. Her accomplishments include World Jump Rope Champion, Rotary Student of the Month, Chemistry Olympiad School Top Scorer in 2013, and a State Solo and Ensemble Qualifier in Vocal performance.  Madi’s future plans are to attend UW-Madison and study Biochemistry and then go pre-med to become a Pediatrician.

Zhou_Zachary

Zachary Zhou, is the son of Mike and Gina Zhou, is on the Math team and Varsity boys’ tennis team, is involved in peer tutoring, and is a member of the National Honor Society. He also serves as concertmaster of the orchestra and has been a violinist in the pit orchestra for his sophomore and junior years. Zachary was recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction in 2014, and took third in 2014 in the Northeast Wisconsin region Chemistry Olympiad  Zachary’s future plans are to major in electrical engineering at UW-Madison, ultimately pursuing a career in computer technology.
